1.       Discuss the various types of keys available on a computer keyboard.

A computer keyboard contains the following types of keys:

1         Alphanumeric keys: All of the alphabet (A-Z) and numbers (0-9) on the keyboard.

2         Punctuation keys: such as the comma (,), period (.), semicolon (;), brackets ([]), and parenthesis ({ }) and so on. Also, all of the mathematical operators such as the plus sign (+), minus sign (-), and equal sign (=).

3         Alt key: Short for Alternate, this key is like a second control key.

4         Arrow keys: There are four arrow keys to move the cursor (or insertion point) up (↑), down (↓), right (→), or left (←).

5         Shift,Alt and Ctrl keys

6         Caps Lock key

7         Delete key: The Del key deletes the character at the current cursor position, or the selected object, but does not move the cursor.

8         Backspace key: Deletes the character just to the left of the cursor (or insertion point) and moves the cursor to that position.

9         Enter key or Return key: It is used to enter commands or to move the cursor to the beginning of the next line.

10     Function keys: Special keys labelled F1 to F12.

2.       Explain the role of typing ergonomics.

Typing ergonomics provides the logistic support for efficient and effective typewriting. They are important to attain and maintain accuracy and speed.

1.       Sitting posture: Sit straight, slightly bending your neck forward.

2.       Position of hands: Put your arms at level with the keyboard.

3.       Monitor placement: Keep an approximate distance of about 60–65 cms for 17 inches screen.

4.       Adjust computer chair and table to an optimal height.

5.       Keep the keyboard and mouse together at an approximate distance of 20 cms.


3.       Why the use of various typing software is common now-a-days?

Typing software are so popular now because:

1.       they help improve communication and documentation.

2.       they make typing easier and impressive.

3.       they auto correct and customize shortcuts.

4.       These software programs help users improve their typing speed, accuracy, and overall productivity.

4.       Write the process behind the typing of letter by the help of keyboard.

When a key is pressed, an electrical contact is formed. These electric signals are transmitted to a micro‑controller in a coded form to the computer describing the character which corresponds to that key. Keyboards are used for text-based programs and software.


5.       Write a short note on Numeric Key Pad.

This keypad is just like a simple calculator. It is normally located on the right[1]hand side of computer keyboard. It contains numbers 0 to 9, addition (+), subtraction (–), multiplication (*) and division (/) symbols, a decimal point (.) and Num Lock and Enter keys. Numeric keypad may also work on dual mode. On one mode, it represents numbers and on the other mode, it contains various keys like arrow keys.

6.       Name the guide keys present on home row .What is the purpose of guide keys?

‘F’ and ‘J’ are called guide keys for left and right hand, respectively. Both contain a small raised tangible mark with the help of which the touch typist can place the fingers correctly on the home keys.

7.       List the common actions generally perform by the mouse.

1.       Click or left click: It is used to select an item.

2.       Double click: It ifs used to start a program.

3.       Right click: It is used to display a set of commands and available options.

4.       Drag and drop: It allows to select and move an item from one location to another.
